NYS Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb Discusses Importance of Brittany's Law

photo

On Tuesday March 8, New York State Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C-Canandaigua) (standing) met with (from left) Dale Driscoll, Joan Tandle, and Linda and Tom Randolph. All are advocates for the Domestic Violence Prevention Act, also known as Brittany's Law, which would create a violent felon registry in New York State.

Ms. Driscoll and Ms. Tandle are Brittany Passalacqua's grandmothers. Brittany and her mother, Helen Buchel, were killed by John Edward Brown, who was on parole after serving time for violently assaulting his infant daughter in 2003. Ms. Buchel was unaware of Brown's history of violence. The Randolphs are the parents of Shannon Pepper, who was the victim of a tragic domestic violence assault in Cattaraugus County in 2013.

Leader Kolb is a co-sponsor of Brittany's Law, which has passed overwhelmingly in the Senate five times, but has yet to be brought to the Assembly floor for a vote.
