State Assembly Pauses to Remember Victims of East Harlem Explosion

Speaker Sheldon Silver and members of the New York State Assembly paused before the start of Thursday’s legislative session to remember the victims of Wednesday’s devastating explosion in East Harlem. The Speaker asked for a moment of silence and offered the following remarks:

I ask that we pause in a moment of silent prayer for the victims of yesterday’s massive gas explosion that has devastated the East Harlem community represented by our colleague, Assemblyman Robert Rodriguez.

Please keep in your thoughts the families of those who were killed by the explosion and the resulting collapse of two buildings.

Please keep in your thoughts those who are missing and believed to be trapped in the rubble.

And please keep in your thoughts the many who were injured as a result of this terrible tragedy.

For our fellow New Yorkers, may we now pause for a moment of silence.
