ASSEMBLY STANDING COMMITTEE ON CORPORATIONS, AUTHORITIES AND COMMISSIONS

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

SUBJECT:

Telecommunications Reform; an examination of statewide cable franchise agreements.

PURPOSE:

This is one of many hearings that will review the telecommunications laws, policies and practices of the State. This hearing will focus solely on examining statewide cable franchise agreements.

ALBANY
Wednesday, March 21, 2007
11:30 a.m.
Chancellor's Hall
State Education Building
80 Washington Avenue (Hawk Street Entrance)
Albany, New York

ORAL TESTIMONY WILL BE BY INVITATION ONLY

The focus of this hearing will be the issue of statewide cable television services, with particular emphasis on how those services are offered. The Committee will seek to ascertain information concerning the effectiveness of the current practice, which allows cable companies to obtain a local cable franchise through the Public Service Commission. The hearing will also examine the possible impact of A.1423, which would provide for an alternative to the current system by allowing statewide cable franchise agreements.

Persons invited to present pertinent testimony to the Committee at the above hearing should complete and return the reply form as soon as possible. It is important that the reply form be fully completed and returned so that persons may be notified in the event of emergency postponement or cancellation.

Ten copies of any prepared testimony should be submitted at the hearing registration desk. The Committee would appreciate advance receipt of prepared statements.

In order to further publicize these hearings, please inform interested parties and organizations of the Committee's interest in considering testimony from all sources.

In order to meet the needs of those who may have a disability, the Assembly, in accordance with its policy of non-discrimination on the basis of disability, as well as the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), has made its facilities and services available to all individuals with disabilities. For individuals with disabilities, accommodations will be provided, upon reasonable request, to afford such individuals access and admission to Assembly facilities and activities.
