TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the public authorities law, in relation to special
powers of the authority
 
PURPOSE:
This legislation will establish a fare equal to that of Metrocard fare
and free transfers for riders travelling within the limits of the city
of New York via commuter rail and New York city transit subways and
buses.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Amends Authorities Law Section 1266 to by adding subdivision
20 Section 2: Sets forth the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
Currently, commuter rail fares are determined by business rush hours and
zone that the rider will be travelling in. This law will establish a set
fare and free transfers for individuals travelling within New York City
and create financial relief for communters.
 
FISCAL IMPLICATION: None
 
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This bill shall take effect immediately.

AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to special
powers of the authority
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 1266 of the public authorities law is amended by
2 adding a new subdivision 20 to read as follows:
3 20. Notwithstanding any other provision of law or the terms of any
4 contract, the authority, in consultation with the New York city transit
5 authority, the Long Island Rail Road and the Metro-North Commuter Rail-
6 road Company, shall allow riders travelling within the limits of the
7 city of New York to pay a fare for commuter rail service equal to that
8 of a MetroCard ride on New York city transit subways and buses and for
9 such riders to make free transfers between said commuter rail and New
10 York city transit subways and buses.
11 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
