Firefighter Memorial Highway

JUSTIFICATION:
On September 11, 2001, our Nation was attacked and thousands of innocent
civilians lost their lives. Planes were hijacked to be used as weapons,
two of which collided with the World Trade Center in New York City,
another attacked the Pentagon, and another crashed into rural Pennsylva-
nia due to the heroic actions of those on board that flight. While the
WTC was smoldering, countless first responders ran to the wreckage to
Save lives, many of whom lost their lives in the process. Of the 2,977
victims who died on 9/11, 343 were firefighters with the NYC Fire
Department.
We will never forget the memories of those firefighters and other first
responders who courageously responded to the WTC attack and tragically
lost their lives. This bill would honor those firefighters who lost
their lives on 9-11 and who continue to lose their lives year after
year, particularly those who lived on Long Island, by designating a
portion of the Long Island Expressway between exits 59 and 61 in Suffolk
County in their honor.
