AN ACT to authorize and direct the commissioner of the department of
agriculture and markets to study leaders in farm-to-school program
development so that a knowledge clearinghouse may be established
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The commissioner of the department of agriculture and
2 markets is hereby authorized and directed to conduct a study on the
3 Vermont Food Education Every Day program, a national leader in farm-to-
4 school program development, and its parent organizations, Shelburne
5 Farms and the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont. Special
6 attention should be given to: the program models; philosophies; curric-
7 ulum integration approach; and staff training programs utilized by the
8 Vermont Food Education Every Day program.
9 § 2. Within one year of the effective date of this act the commission-
10 er of agriculture and markets shall deliver a report of his or her find-
11 ings and recommendations, including proposed legislation to the governor
12 and the legislature. The report should describe with particularity how a
13 program, similar in resources and approach to that of the Vermont Food
14 Education Every Day program, may be implemented in this state.
15 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
