Statement from Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr.: “Ending DACA Ends Dreams”

According to a recent survey of immigrants protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA), 97 percent of the respondents are currently working or in school. Since its implementation, DACA has increased opportunities, improved lives and boosted our economy. Doing away with the program is not only morally wrong, but economically irresponsible. These young people pay taxes, purchase homes, start businesses and create jobs. They help us build stronger communities and are embedded in the foundation of our states and our nation. They are Americans; this is their home, and we must not turn our backs on them. Congress must work immediately to pass comprehensive immigration reform – the need has never been greater.
