“Property taxes on Long Island are already through the roof. Executive Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Taxation and Finance, Nonie Manion, admitted yesterday morning at the Joint Budget hearing on Taxes that the governor’s budget, which will freeze STAR relief, will raise property taxes. New York already ranks among the highest-taxed states in the country, and now the governor plans to freeze a program designed to give New Yorkers relief while raising our taxes. As budget negotiations continue in the coming months I will fight against this initiative and work to protect New Yorkers’ STAR rebates.”
