Assemblyman Andrew Raia (R,I,C,WF-East Northport) honors WWII veteran David Gordon with the Medal for Merit. Mr. Gordon, who saw action in the European Theatre, served in the 69th Infantry Division and held rank as PFC 1st Class.

“I am proud to have the opportunity to present this award to such an honorable veteran as Mr. Gordon, who has served our country with valor,” said Raia. “This award is a wonderful way for our community to pay tribute to the bravery, honor, and sacrifice of all our veterans.”

Raia said the Medal for Merit may be awarded to any current New York citizen or person who was a New York State citizen while serving on federal active duty; whose entire service was honorable and who were recipients of a valor, achievement, commendation or meritorious service decoration; or whose service was in direct support of combat operations while serving in the United States Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps or Coast Guard. The medal also may be awarded posthumously to a designated survivor of the deceased.

Raia said veterans who qualify and are interested in being awarded the Medal for Merit, the Conspicuous Service Cross or the Conspicuous Service Star should contact his office at (631) 261-4151 for assistance.
