McDonough Pushes For Measure to Combat Local Gangs

In a response to the deadly gang violence prevalent on Long Island in recent months and the Senate’s approval of legislation to combat street gangs, Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) is calling on Assembly leadership to pass the same legislation in the house. Within the bill are measures to further empower prosecutors to lock up these deadly criminals and aid non-profits and community partners to bolster gang-prevention services.

“Gang violence, particularly on Long Island with the MS-13 street gang, has become a serious reality that needs to be addressed immediately,” McDonough said. “This is about the safety and security of our families, and we need to work with federal, state and local law enforcement and community leaders to eradicate this senseless violence. I calling on Speaker Heastie to follow the Senate’s lead and bring this bill to the floor for a vote immediately so we may come closer to bringing these criminals to justice.”
