Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) was pleased to announce today that the Nassau Library System is being awarded $387,473, collectively, to four separate libraries in Nassau County. The funds have been awarded as follows:

• Merrick Library - $59,225 for the expansion of the parking lot, reconstruction of sidewalks and installation of on-site lighting.
• North Merrick Public Library - $99,487 for the expansion of the young adult section and reconstruction of the parking lot.
• Seaford Public Library - $110,143 to upgrade restrooms.
• Wantagh Public Library - $118,618 to insulate and replace the roof.

“Libraries play an important role in bringing our communities together,” said McDonough. “By providing amenities such as classes, programs and access to knowledge for people of all ages, library facilities must be well maintained. This grant will help ensure that the Nassau Library System can sustain the proper care of and renovations to these facilities so they can continue to serve and provide a place for the community to gather.”

The program is a part of a $19 million fund approved in this year’s state budget for 216 construction projects throughout the state.

“Additionally, in a world where technology is becoming more prevalent in the lives of our youth, the prospect of additional space in the teen section is exciting,” McDonough continued. “Because many libraries depend on public funding to stay afloat, it remains critical that we promote and support these important assets to our communities at a state level.”
