Pheffer Amato Hosts MetroCard Van at Rock-a-Block

This past Saturday, October 7th, Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-Rockaway Beach) hosted the MTA’s MetroCard Van at the second of two Rock-a-Block street festivals at 94th and Rockaway Beach Boulevard. Rock-a-Block is put on by the Rockaway Business Alliance, which, according to their Facebook page, aims to “create business corridors that are clean, safe, and welcoming, with shopping, dining, attractions, and engagement for the local community, and the swell of visitors drawn to Rockaway’s beaches and open spaces.” The street festival was well-attended, attracting hundreds of attendees. Dozens of those were able to use the MetroCard van to purchase regular, senior or other reduced-fare cards locally, without having to visit a train station. “More and more people are taking the bus,” said Pheffer Amato, “and with Select Bus Service coming to the Peninsula, now is the best time to get a MetroCard! We don’t have nearly enough transit options here on the Peninsula, but we’re working on it. In the meantime, it’s great to have options to get a MetroCard without having to climb a flight of stairs to a train station, especially for seniors and disabled folks. I’ve done one of these events at JASA, and it was a great time doing a follow-up at Rock-a-Block. Congratulations to the whole RBA crew, thanks to the MTA for coming out, and thanks to everyone who stopped by for a pass! This is just one great step in a long push to bring real mass transit access to everyone in South Queens.”
