Statement: Kidney Disease Patients are Entitled to Better State Benefits
New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli recently reported that New York wasted up to $146 million over the past five years by not helping people with kidney disease get Medicare benefits entitled to them.
“I have introduced legislation addressing two very important issues to help New York’s kidney disease patients. My bill would require the Department of Health to inform patients of their Medicare eligibility, thereby helping reduce out-of-pocket expenses and provide better care options. Second, the legislation would also address New York’s obligation to provide Medicaid assistance to kidney disease patients over 65 (or who are disabled) who are also eligible for assistance.”
