Assemblymember Steck: New Legislation Provides Tax Relief for Hardworking Families

Calls on millionaires to pay their fair share

“Our current tax system puts a significant amount of pressure on hard working families in the Capital Region. I’m proud to sponsor legislation that would provide tax relief to over 5 million middle class families across the state while asking the wealthiest to pay their fair share. This is very fair since we have recently witnessed the largest accumulation of wealth at the top of the income scale since the 19th century. At the same time, history has shown that when lower income families receive tax breaks their capacity to spend in the local economy is greatly increased. This moves our economy forward. Additionally, by raising income thresholds, we can make sure that those who need critical resources such as the Earned Income Tax Credit have the ability to use these programs. This tax structure will make New York more affordable for millions of families, while also raising the revenue the state needs.”
