Santabarbara: New funds bring upgrades to Amsterdam’s infrastructure

More than $13M in state funding was announced today to improve bridges and culverts in the Mohawk Valley. The funding, provided through Round One of the state’s BRIDGE NY initiative included $33K to make significant improvements to the Forest Avenue bridge over the Chuctanunda Creek in the City of Amsterdam

“As a Civil Engineer now serving in our State Assembly, I know that smart investments like this to improve infrastructure with 21st century engineering and technology will ensure continued success for upstate cities like Amsterdam,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. “Funding to build safer, more reliable roads and bridges is critical to economic growth and ensuring public safety for local residents.”

Amsterdam has seen the impact of extreme weather and recent events has put the spotlight on aging infrastructure statewide. “This additional funding helps us become better prepared for future weather events, reduces the risk of flooding and ensures safer travel during emergencies,” Santabarbara added. “As we begin the budget process this year, improving aging infrastructure in our upstate communities remains a priority.”
