Assemblyman Santabarbara Announces $85 million in Funding for Transformative Projects in the Mohawk Valley

Montgomery County to receive nearly $5M

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara announced significant state funding awarded to the Mohawk Valley through the Regional Economic Development Council. Empire State Development awarded a total of $800 million across the 10 economic development regions of New York State. The Mohawk Valley was named a Top Performer at this year’s event, receiving $85.5 million in funding for a number of transformative projects with nearly $5 million funding development projects in Montgomery County that include:

  • $1.2 million for the City of Amsterdam to construct hotel lodging in the city’s revitalized Southside;
  • $1 million to revitalize the former Chalmers Knitting Mill site into residential and retail space, including a riverfront banquet facility;
  • $526,750 for the design and construction of the new Canalside Park in the Village of Fonda;
  • $500,000 for the restoration of the historic Unity Hall in Fort Plain and West Hill School in Canajoharie;
  • $345,120 for the restoration of historic Diefendorf Hall in Fort Plain to include an original Erie Canal storefront;
  • $337,500 for a salt storage facility in the Town of Florida;
  • $300,000 to rehabilitate the Historic Montgomery County Courthouse;
  • $70,000 for the Mohawk Fabric Company, Inc. to purchase equipment to increase their manufacturing capacity at the 96 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam manufacturing facility;
