Blankenbush Displeased with State’s Focus on Protecting Illegals

Today, Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush (R,C,I-Black River) reiterated his displeasure with the Assembly Majority and their focus on protecting illegal aliens from federal law. His displeasure is in response to legislation passed by the Assembly Majority including bills that are intended to obstruct federal deportation efforts and protect illegal aliens sentenced to jail from federal investigation.

“The Assembly Majority don’t have their priorities in order,” said Blankenbush. “Instead of focusing on legislation aimed at improving the business climate in New York State, creating jobs and lowering taxes, some of my colleagues are more concerned with putting on a political performance and protecting lawbreakers. It’s unacceptable and quite disrespectful to the taxpayers of this state who are having their time and money wasted on partisan nonsense.

“Immigration is a federal issue, and it should be the federal government making the decisions on how immigration is handled in this country. The Assembly Majority knows that, and their display today was nothing more than an opportunity for them to add clips to their campaign highlight reel.”

The Assembly also passed the DREAM Act, which would make illegal aliens eligible to receive tuition assistance for college.

“TAP hasn’t been raised in over a decade,” said Blankenbush. “Our focus should be on the taxpayers of this state and helping those middle-class families who are struggling to send their children to college. They are the ones contributing to the state budget and they are the ones who should reap the benefits.”
