Barclay Reacts to Governor’s Budget

Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,I—Pulaski) released the following statement today in reaction to the Governor’s proposed budget.

“I look forward to learning more specifics about the financial plan but overall, I am concerned about how taxpayers can be expected to pay for some of the programs such as free tuition and the DREAM Act. Our state is facing a $3.5 billion deficit yet the proposed budget includes new programs and spending.

“New York needs to create jobs, reduce taxes, and reduce the cost of doing business. Policies that takeaway from these opportunities and ultimately raise taxes will continue to hurt the Upstate economy. To that end, the budget should be mindful of these real economic struggles rather than expanding programs. This budget process will be challenging but as we move forward I will continue to focus on our local economy, creating jobs, and passing a budget that does not place additional burdens on taxpayers.”
