DiPietro And Colleagues See Ethics Reform Measures Defeated By Majority

Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora) took part in an ethics reform press conference preceding session today. DiPietro, along with his colleagues in the Assembly Minority Conference, sponsored 17 ethics reform resolutions in the chamber today, and saw all 17 blocked by the Assembly Majority.

The measures included term limits for the speakership and legislative leaders, recording committee meetings, and increased publishing of votes electronically.

“Every single person can see how badly we need ethics reform except for the 70 or 80 members across the aisle who consistently block these measures,” DiPietro said. “After last year, I figured we’d at least get a few more of their members crossing over, but they stayed together opposing every reform we offered. They aren’t even offering solutions of their own. The Assembly Majority are the last people left in New York comfortable with the status quo. It’s a shame, and their constituents should feel neglected. Preet Bharara can’t police us forever. At some point we have to do it on our own.”
