Commemorating Our Hometown Heroes

A legislative column by Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora)

Our veterans, who give so much for us, deserve every ounce of respect and honor we can give them. We can never be thankful enough for their service, and it is with this in mind that I am creating the Commemorate our Hometown Heroes Veterans Bridges and Road Program.

This program is designed to honor those deceased wartime veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country in the line of duty. It is but one step in remembering their lives and courage.

The Commemorate our Hometown Heroes program aims to promote community awareness of deceased wartime veterans by showing our appreciation for their by naming a future roadway or bridge after them. Immortalizing veterans in this manner will allow them to forever be a part of our community.

It is my hope to start to amass and maintain a list of deceased wartime veterans because they are all worthy of recognition. To this end, when we dedicate one of these new roadways or bridges to a deserving candidate, there will be an informal ceremony for family and friends of the veteran.

If you or someone you know has a candidate to nominate, please email me at dipietrod@nyassembly.gov for more information. I urge everyone to come forward if you have a deserving candidate and help me commemorate our hometown heroes.
