DiPietro Leading the Charge against Safe Act In 2018

Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C,I-East Aurora) has, since the very onset of the SAFE Act in New York, railed against the unconstitutional law. DiPietro has formulated numerous attempts to disarm and fully repeal the SAFE Act, and is continuing his mission this session by pushing a bill to remove the recertification requirement for firearms (A5388).

“I’ve been against the SAFE Act and its abuses from the very beginning,” DiPietro said. “This session, I’m resolved to continue efforts to fully repeal it and that starts by disarming the most inconvenient parts of the act. Removing the pistol recertification requirement is but the first step in returning our Second Amendment rights back to the citizens of New York State, and I will keep doing all in my power to see that happen.”

The assemblyman believes the SAFE Act is a direct assault on our civil liberties, and this bill would help strip the teeth from the law by stopping the unnecessary re-certification of firearms. The portion of the act also leaves the door open for full seizure of all of one’s firearms, not just the pistol that hasn’t been re-certified correctly, which is a disgusting overstep of government authority. If your pistol permit was issued before January 15, 2013, you must recertify your permit before January 31, 2018. If your permit was issued on or after January 15, 2013, the deadline is five years after the date the permit was issued.
