Two High School Students Selected to Receive Italian-American Scholarship
June 9, 2015

Yesterday, Assemblyman Andrew Garbarino (R,C, I-Sayville) congratulated this year’s recipients of the Italian-American Scholarship, high school seniors Jake Osburn and Sam Sharkey, for their exceptional academic and athletic achievements as well as their outstanding contributions to the Italian-American community. The students were chosen from a pool of applicants from across the state of New York.

“It is my honor to congratulate Jake and Sam on winning the Italian-American Scholarship. This is an exceptional achievement, and I commend their hard work in and out of the classroom” said Garbarino. “The dedication that these two have put forward to earn this award is an accomplishment that will stay with them long after high school.”

“For many, Long Island families pursuing an education is an incredibly difficult financial feat. That’s why it’s important that we continue to assist them by providing these scholarship opportunities,” said Garbarino. “I want to thank my colleagues in the Conference of Italian-American State Legislators for joining me in making such a commitment to furthering students’ access to higher education.”

The conference is a bipartisan organization of New York State Assembly and Senate members who are actively involved in promoting and celebrating the state’s Italian-American community.
