Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara Appointed to National Climate Task Force

Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, a professional engineer, and esteemed member of the New York State Assembly committees on Energy and Veterans Affairs, has accepted an invitation to serve as a member of the Elected Officials to Protect America (EOPA) National Climate Task Force. This appointment marks a significant milestone in Assemblyman Santabarbara's ongoing commitment to addressing critical climate issues and supporting his constituents.

The announcement was made during the EOPA fall cohort gathering, where Assemblyman Santabarbara expressed his enthusiasm for this new role. "It was a pleasure to participate in the EOPA fall cohort and I am proud to serve on the National Climate Task Force for EOPA," said Assemblyman Santabarbara. "I look forward to ongoing engagement with the Department of Energy (DOE) to help guide the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and related funding, such as the CHIPS Act and Infrastructure Bill, and to support communities in putting climate solutions into action."

Assemblyman Santabarbara's extensive background in engineering, coupled with his experience in the US Army Reserve and his leadership on the New York State Assembly's Energy and Veterans Affairs Committees, uniquely positions him to contribute valuable insights and expertise to the National Climate Task Force. His appointment reflects his unwavering commitment to safeguarding the environment, bolstering resilience in the face of climate change, and advancing the interests of his constituents.

“We are committed to addressing the climate crisis and ensuring energy security for our nation. Working with the Department of Energy, EOPA’s Task Force will help support the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act, and related funding, to assist state and local elected officials in implementing climate solutions. Given the IRA’s historic $370 billion investment, we want to ensure districts that have not traditionally received funding know what is available, the criteria, and how to apply for the funds,” said Alex Cornell du Houx, former Maine state Representative, Marine combat veteran, President of Elected Officials to Protect America and Co-Founder.“ Assemblymember Angelo Santabarbara’s record mitigating the climate crisis and working with the communities he represents to ensure they have the tools to mitigate the climate crisis makes him invaluable to our Task Force. He is a tremendous leader who ensures equity. We’re honored he has joined our Task Force.”
