Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22nd of each year to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network and celebrated in more than 193 countries each year. In recognition of Earth Day and the upcoming Arbor Day (celebrated on April 27th), Assemblyman Santabarbara will be visiting students at the Lynch Literacy Academy in Amsterdam to talk to students about the importance of trees in our environment and protecting our natural resources. An annual tradition for Santabarbara, he will also provide students with new trees that they will plant together during his visit. He will be joined by Amsterdam School Superintendent Dr. Vicky Ramos and School Principal Elizabeth Hanan.

“With Spring upon us and people spending more time outside, this is the perfect time to raise awareness about the issues affecting our environment,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara. “Taking action to protect our natural resources is something that adults and children of all ages can take part in every day of the year.”
