Tax Freedom Day Has Little Meaning In NYS

A statement from Assemblyman Brian Miller (R,I-New Hartford)

“April 23 of this year was Tax Freedom Day for most of the country. This date signifies that Americans have finally earned enough income to pay their tax bill for the year. Because of the excessive spending led by New York City Politicians, Tax Freedom Day for New York State arrives more than two weeks late on May 11. New York has simply become too expensive a place for our residents to live. When you work for half the year simply to pay the tax collector, something has to change. It isn’t fair to the hardworking families trying to make ends meet. It’s not fair to the moms and dads who need to put food on the table for their children but would also like the ability to save for college, take the family on vacation or send their children to camp or on school trips. New York state is robbing them of the ability to live their lives the way they would like. It isn’t fair to any hardworking resident that they are so overtaxed they must consider moving to states with a better tax climate. The answer is to cut the excessive budget spending, which has soared higher and higher with each passing budget season.”
