Petition to STOP Western New York Children's Psychiatric Center from closing
I need your help to keep the Western New York Children's Psychiatric Center open.
This session, I have been working diligently with legislators from Western New York to stop the closing of WNY Children's Psychiatric Center (WNYCPC). Closing the WNYCPC would move patients to the Buffalo Psychiatric Center which is equipped to treat adults.
I'm pleased to report that the bill I sponsored in the NYS Assembly to permanently block the merging of these two facilities unanimously passed the Senate and Assembly and will be delivered to the governor for his consideration. Governor Cuomo has threatened to veto this bill, an action which would shut down the facility and send patients to the Buffalo Psychiatric Center where adults are treated.
This has been a long three year battle to keep WNYCPC open for the children who are treated there. It's a facility that leads all others that treat children in the 30 and 90 day readmission rates. The facility received a 99.9% rating by the Joint Commission on Accredited Health Care Organizations in 2012, and has been rated in the top 10 facilities in the country.
When patients leave the facility, they leave a hand print on the wall to encourage and give hope to future patients. The children of Western New York deserve to be treated in a top-notch environment by accredited professionals. Join me and my colleagues in the fight to keep WNYCPC open. Encourage Governor Cuomo to sign the bill and save our children.
