McDonough Puts New Emphasis on Food Drive as Holiday Season Approaches

As the holiday season quickly approaches, Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) is once again pushing his annual food drive. McDonough has been conducting the drive year round since 2008 and has collected well over 2,000 pounds of food, which has been donated to local families and food pantries. McDonough emphasized the horrible toll placed on homeless and less fortunate families during the cold winter months, and that addressing hunger on Long Island is one of his top priorities this time of year.

“As the holiday season approaches, please remember that not all local families will be fortunate enough to enjoy a hot meal during these special times,” McDonough said. “We have many parents still looking for work and our high cost of living places a large burden on many families as they have to choose between paying their bills and buying food. As sad as this is, there is a way to help by donating to my annual food drive. We have collected thousands of pounds of food over the years and anything as little as a can or two of vegetables would brighten a local family’s day.”

Donations of canned goods and other non-perishable food items can be dropped off at McDonough’s District Office, located at 404 Bedford Avenue in Bellmore, between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, feel free to call the District Office at 516-409-2070.
