McDonough: Assembly Majority Vote Down Ethics Reforms, Block Increased Transparency Measures

Assemblyman Dave McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) today called out Assembly Majority for blocking over a dozen proposals brought about by Assembly Minority aimed at increasing transparency and accountability in the way the house functions. Among the reforms proposed are term limits for legislative leaders, equal allocations of staff budget for every member of the house and requiring a two-thirds vote of the house to use messages of necessity.

“It is disappointing and a disservice to taxpayers across the state that these common-sense proposals were voted down once again,” McDonough said. “These are proposals that would seek to enhance citizens’ participation in government and repair the trust between the public and Albany that has been damaged in recent years. It is important that we make every effort to provide a candid look at how we are using taxpayer-funded resources and cut through the murky cloud of secrecy that Assembly leadership has perpetuated in recent years.”
