Assemblyman Braunstein Announces Women’s History Month Art Contest Winner

Assemblyman Edward C. Braunstein (D-Bayside) announced the winner of his annual Women’s History Month Art Contest, which required participants to draw a picture of a New York woman who they admire.

The winner of this year’s contest is Joyce Zheng, a 9th Grade student at Townsend Harris High School in Flushing. Joyce drew a portrait of Edith Wharton, an American novelist, short story writer, and designer who was born in New York City. Edith Wharton won the Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 1921, the first woman to receive the honor.

“Congratulations to Joyce. Over 100 students from schools in Queens participated in my office’s Women’s History Month Art Contest and I was extremely impressed with their talented drawings,” said Assemblyman Braunstein.

Joyce received a gift card from Amazon and her portrait of Edith Wharton will appear on the cover of next year’s contest brochure.
