Why I’m Voting Yes

To the Editor: I have been a resident of the Sewanhaka Central High School District my entire life. I have witnessed the dedication and commitment that the administrators, their staff, teachers, parents, and guardians have to our children. The vote on the Bond Proposal scheduled for May 20, 2014 has been designed with public input to meet the individual needs of our schools with important capital repairs and improvements that will save on long-term maintenance costs on these structures. The bond also will include security and technology upgrades. There is also a focus on upgrading facilities for extracurricular activities. Construction will take place on new music and art rooms, and renovations will be done to auditoriums at all five schools in the district, as well as to gymnasiums and athletic fields. It is important to note that this bond will be eligible for partial reimbursement under the state building aid formula, which has historically been a steady portion of state school aid. I hope the residents of the district will take this opportunity to become informed on this project and cast their vote on May 20. For our children, our parents, our teachers and our future, I am voting yes. EDWARD P. RA
