Ra Launches Assembly Summer Reading Challenge, Encourages Participation

Assemblyman Ed Ra (R-Franklin Square) is delighted to announce the New York State Assembly 2017 Summer Reading Challenge to inspire children to keep their minds sharp during the summer. As a member of the Education Committee, encouraging children down the path of knowledge, growth and learning has always been a top priority for Ra.

In order to take part in the challenge, children up to middle-school age are asked to read for 15 minutes a day for 40 days during their summer vacation. A suggested reading list is available which includes a variety of genres for young readers to pick from. Once children have completed the 40 days, they must send in their form to Ra’s district office and they will receive an Excellence in Reading Certificate.

“Though schools across the state are letting out for summer vacation, it is critical we continue to nurture the minds of our children,” said Ra. “Just 15 minutes a day can help kids remain at the top of their class while leaving plenty of time for summer fun. This will also ensure that once school starts in the fall, students will have an easier transition back into the classroom.

For more information regarding the Assembly’s Summer Reading Challenge, please contact Ra’s district office at (516) 535-4095. Brochures can also be picked up at his office at 825 East Gate Blvd, Suite 207, Garden City, NY 11530 on a first come, first served basis.

“As a member of the Education Committee I recognize the importance of helping our children prepare for the future in any way possible. I hope parents and guardians will encourage their children to take part in the reading challenge and help set them up for a better future.”
