"There are estimated to be more than 200,000 children in kinship care arrangements in New York State, often being cared for by their relatives because of their parents' mental-health issues, substance abuse and incarceration. Children in kinship arrangements often have experienced trauma from abuse or neglect or parental loss. But kinship caregivers overcome these challenges. They are a natural resource for vulnerable children, providing safety, stability, and permanency for our children and their care," said Assemblywoman Ellen Jaffee on an Assembly Resolution proclaiming September 2018, as Kinship Care Month.  (K842)
