Resurfacing Work Begins Near Shinnecock Canal Bridge

Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. (I, D, WF-Sag Harbor) is pleased to announce that the New York State Department of Transportation has begun resurfacing work on the approaches to the bridge over Shinnecock Canal. As part of the work, one-and-a-half inches of the existing pavement will be milled and replaced with two inches of new blacktop that will match the surrounding elevations, providing a smoother surface for vehicles. Work began on December 7th and is expected to take approximately one week to complete.

Lane closures are expected on Route 27/Sunrise Highway between Route 62/Newtown Road and Route 39/North Road in Southampton Town. Motorists are reminded to drive carefully through the work zone, obey any speed restrictions that may be in place, and the instructions of the flag persons for their safety and the safety of the highway work crew. As with most road and bridge projects, work may be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather.
