October 19, 2017

Assemblyman Gary D. Finch (R,C,I-Springport) today announced that the Department of Civil Service is offering a new exam for those interested in a career as a correction officer.

The test for the sought-after New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision positions will be held on February 3, 2018. The deadline to apply for the exam is December 13, 2017.

“Correction officers are on the front lines of public safety across New York State. Nowhere is that more apparent than in the community I’m proud to call home,” said Finch. “If you’re service-oriented, if you’re willing to work hard to protect your community and you’re looking for a career in law enforcement with competitive compensation and benefits, this is really a tremendous opportunity.”

Finch said those planning to sit for the exam can register by logging on to www.cs.ny.gov/exams. Additional information about the position of correction officer can be found at www.doccs.ny.gov.

Finch noted that correction officer trainees earn $40,590 per year. After six months, the salary escalates to $42,695. After successfully completing the year-long traineeship, officers earn $48,889.

“We need excellent applicants desperately. Our prisons are not safe unless they’re fully staffed by men and women of impeccable character,” said Finch.
