McGowan Reacts to Brush Fires in Hudson Valley

“This morning I participated in a discussion with representatives from CSX and Rockland County, state and local officials concerning the alarming brush fires that occurred this past weekend along the CSX railway track line in Clarkstown, Haverstraw and Stony Point.

“As discussed at the meeting, we do not yet know the cause of these fires. While the investigation is ongoing, we know similar incidents cannot happen again. Further, there must be transparency during the investigation and accountability at its conclusion to ensure those who sustained loss from these fires—our residents, our municipalities and our responding emergency and fire service agencies—are made whole.

“I’d like to thank Sen. Bill Weber for organizing this meeting today. I look forward to working with my colleagues at all levels of government and CSX officials as we ensure the safety of all our residents is first and foremost in all discussions. I hope this is just the first of many meetings with CSX and that residents also have an opportunity in the coming weeks to publicly address CSX and seek answers to their questions.”
