McGowan: Resolution Adopted Proclaiming the Month of May as Haitian Heritage Month In New York

Assemblyman John McGowan (R,C-Rockland) is proud to support the resolution adopted in the Assembly Chamber today that proclaims May 2023 as Haitian Heritage Month in the State of New York. Haitian communities play a prominent role in our state with nearly 15,000 people of Haitian descent living throughout the Hudson Valley, especially in Spring Valley and Rockland County.

β€œIt is my honor to support the resolution adopted in the Assembly today proclaiming May as Haitian Heritage Month to better represent the residents of the 97th Assembly District. For those that immigrated to Rockland County, regardless of when you did so, we welcome you all with open arms – it is truly a special aspect of the Hudson Valley to have such diverse cultures intertwined. With organizations such as the Haitian American Cultural and Social Organization helping create economic and social development opportunities and services, it is no wonder that those who travel the journey to New York are attracted to our area and call it home,” said McGowan.
