Brabenec: ‘Economic Development Money Belongs to Taxpayers, Not Corrupt Cronies’

After years of inaction to address rampant corruption regarding New York’s economic development programs, and with high-profile state insiders like Alain Kaloyeros set to stand trial on corruption charges, Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,TCN-Deepark) is making an end-of-session push for a vote on legislation, that would provide greater oversight, transparency and auditing of how New York spends tax dollars on economic development programs.

Brabenec made his announcement following a press conference held in Albany by Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C,I,Ref-Canandaigua) and numerous Assembly Minority colleagues.

“The corruption in our economic development programs and utter failure by the Cuomo administration to address it is eating away at the fabric of our state’s government,” Brabenec said. “Alain Kaloyeros is set to stand trial on corruption in a massive bid-rigging scheme, and the governor doesn’t bat an eye. In fact, he continued to push for more taxpayer money to be spent on failed programs like START-UP NY and the Buffalo Billion – shameful. It is beyond time that we return this money back to taxpayer where it belongs instead of letting corrupt insiders use it to line their pockets.”
