Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner Calls on Washington to Protect DACA Recipients

January 18, 2018

“With the federal government facing a possible shutdown at midnight tomorrow it is essential for leadership in Washington to advocate for permanent protections for the 690,000 DACA program enrollees,” Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner (D-Bronx, 77th AD) said. “This is particularly important as the March 5th expiration of DACA is rapidly approaching and – with each passing day – countless New Yorkers face the growing possibility of being forced to leave the United States.”

“Just days after New Yorkers throughout our state celebrated the joys of the Holiday Season, there are families in our community who do not even know whether they will be forcibly divided from their loved ones,” Assemblywoman Joyner said. “For too many New Yorkers the ‘American Dream’ is in danger of becoming their own personal nightmare and I urge Congress to stand united in support of families who have been contributing so much to the Bronx and our entire state.”
