Walsh Weighs in on Cuomo’s Plan To Fund College Courses For Prisoners

“I am disappointed to learn that Gov. Cuomo will be moving forward with his plan to provide $7 million in grants to several colleges across the state to fund courses for prison inmates. While I feel strongly that all New Yorkers should have access to educational opportunities, I also believe that this considerable appropriation could be used more responsibly. Offering a free college education to criminals while millions of our state’s law-abiding students and families struggle with the financial burdens associated with getting an education is not in line with my priorities, and moving forward, I will continue working to ensure our State government uses its resources in a manner that reflects our values and beliefs,” said Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C,I,Ref-Ballston).
