Walsh Reacts to Cuomo Press Conference

A statement from Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh (R,C,I-Ballston)

“While the fight for answers for thousands of New York families who lost loved ones in nursing homes due to COVID-19 has been ongoing, the pressure has certainly been building over the past several weeks. From the Attorney General’s report to leaked closed-door conversations, and now today’s performance by the governor himself. The writing is on the wall, and New Yorkers deserve far better leadership than doubling down when the truth doesn’t fit the narrative.

“In July, I joined my colleagues in sponsoring legislation (A.3162) that would establish an independent, bipartisan state commission with subpoena power in an effort to shed light on an otherwise very tragic situation. The continued deflecting and finger-pointing by the governor and his staff is incredibly concerning, and I believe the need for a full review and investigation by the Attorney General and Department of Justice has never been more apparent.

“It’s clear that New Yorkers, as well as members of the Legislature, on both sides of the aisle, are outraged - and rightfully so. I echo the calls for a special session to be held in order to rescind the governor’s Executive Authority and restore the Senate and Assembly as co-equal branches of government to make sure that the ‘void’ that has misdirected information can be corrected.”
