Assemblywoman Melissa Miller (R,C,Ref-Atlantic Beach) co-hosted a successful, no-cost breast cancer screening with South Nassau Communities Hospital and Sen. Todd Kaminsky on Sunday, October 29. The event took place at South Nassau’s Center for Women’s Imaging, where Miller was briefed by Dr. Mindy Scheer and her team on the different forms of technology and services they had available, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), equipment for bone density screenings that can help determine a variety of health issues in women and 3D tomosynthesis for mammography.
“With an average of 1 out of 8 women being diagnosed with invasive breast cancer during their lifetime, the best form of prevention is early detection,” said Miller. “I am thrilled that I was able to co-host this event, which offered screenings to all women, both insured and uninsured or underinsured, as it is important for women to keep up-to-date on their health. I will continue to support programs and events like this and look forward to helping even more women during next year’s screenings.”
