Assemblywoman Rozic: Sunday Brunch Bill Will Help Queens Small Businesses

Rozic says it’s good news that Sunday Brunch customers can finally ‘raise a glass’ before noon on Sundays

Queens, NY – Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D,WF-Fresh Meadows) today issued the following statement, on Governor Cuomo’s signing of the ‘Sunday Brunch Bill’ she supported earlier this year in the State Assembly, which allows the sale of alcohol by licensed restaurants and taverns beginning at 10 a.m. on Sundays:

“With the increasing popularity of Sunday brunch, it is time that customers have the opportunity to raise a glass with their meal. I supported the Sunday Brunch Bill in the State Assembly that will help a number of restaurants and similar establishments throughout Queens. The changes to the state’s laws governing alcohol sales are common-sense measures that many business owners have been seeking for years, and that will help generate revenue for small businesses and workers alike.”

Restaurants in New York have been unable to serve alcoholic beverages on Sundays before noon since the end of the Prohibition era. This new law amends this and a number of other regulations that have slowed the expansion of restaurants, wineries, and breweries. In addition, wine can now be sold in growlers and wineries can allow customers to take home partially-finished bottles of wine. Liquor stores will also be able to sell gift wrapping and gift bags to their customers.
