Assemblymember Hunter’s Legislation Waiving State Application Fees for Veterans Signed into Law

Assemblymember Pamela J. Hunter (D-Syracuse) announced legislation she authored waiving the state application fee for civil service exams for honorably discharged veterans has been signed into law (Ch. 404 of 2017).

“The brave men and women who served our country deserve every opportunity to find employment when they return home,” Hunter said. “As a member of the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and chair of the Assembly Subcommittee on Women Veterans, their needs are one of my top priorities. Waiving the state application fee shows veterans our appreciation for their service and sacrifice and encourages them to enter state government.”

Hunter, the only female veteran in the New York State Legislature, has fought to expand opportunities and services for veterans when they return home. She authored legislation requiring SUNY and CUNY to examine the availability of campus services, programs and resources for veterans and provide recommendations on improving those opportunities (A.1080) and exempting veterans from paying certain filing fees relating to the incorporation of a business to help lower the cost of starting their own business (A.6835).
