Lopez Supports Plan to Protect Developmentally Disabled
A statement from Assemblyman Pete Lopez (R,C,I,Ref-Schoharie)
February 7, 2017
“In the past year, the governor made the tragic error of closing down sheltered workshops across the state. Those establishments serve as a place of employment for individuals with developmental disabilities as well as a place for them to develop life skills. If the state government will not support and protect our most vulnerable, who will? I, along with my colleagues, support the Championing Aid, Rights, Equality, and Services (C.A.R.E.S.) Plan unveiled today, which will create more training and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The plan would also provide them housing, create a bill of rights to protect them, and provide for a much needed wage increase for those entrusted with their care.” EDITOR’S NOTE: Assembly Minority’s C.A.R.E.S. Plan can be found here.
