“Recently I expressed my concern about a particular section of the governor’s Executive Budget proposal that will freeze STAR savings over the coming years for participants of the program. My concern stems from the fact that freezing those savings would essentially be a tax increase on STAR homes. Today, Deputy Commissioner Nonie Manion of the State Department of Taxation and Finance confirmed that the governor’s proposal is just that — a tax increase. During budget negotiations I will fight for the many struggling families and seniors in our district who depend on their STAR savings. This hidden tax on our seniors cannot be allowed.”
