Palmesano Applauds Launch of Online Organ, Eye and Tissue Registry

For the first time, New Yorkers can register as organ donors online at https://donatelife.ny.gov/register/

“Today, I’m pleased to announce that New Yorkers can now register online as organ, eye and tissue donors on the state’s revamped organ donor registry. You can save up to eight lives with one click. This is a game-changer and will certainly improve our state’s organ donor participation rate. One of our goals has been to tear down the barriers to donation and make it as easy as possible to sign up, and this modernized online registry is a very productive step forward.

“Please, take advantage of the online registry today. New York State’s public participation rate of 28 percent ranks 51st out of 52 states and territories. Over 9,000 New Yorkers are on the transplant waiting list. Over 1,800 have been waiting for five years. We know that inaction is deadly – on average, a New Yorker died every 15 hours waiting for a transplant last year. Registering as an organ and tissue donor is a quick, easy way to make a profound impact on an individual and their family,” said Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning).
