Seawright Named to Codes Committee

Albany, NY-- Assembly Member Seawright was appointed to the Codes Committee of the New York State Assembly by Speaker Heastie. The New York State Assembly Standing Committee on Codes considers issues and legislation regarding the State’s criminal and civil justice system. Most of the legislation considered by the members of the Codes Committee amends the Criminal Procedure Law, the Penal Law, the Civil Practice Law and Rules, as well as selected articles of the Executive Law.

The Committee on Codes will be crucial this year in the fight for passage of legislation to protect consumers and the environment, protecting vulnerable populations including the missing, vulnerable and victims of sex crimes. Additionally, there will be reforms to penal and criminal procedure laws.

Assembly Member Seawright said "I am honored and priveleged to play a role in the discussions and agenda of the Codes Committee for the Assembly of the State of New York. As a former Assistant District Attorney and Administrative Law Judge, I know all too well the ways in which the legal system needs reform. I look forward to working with my colleagues and Chair Lentol on these pressing issues for our great State of New York."

Seawright continues to Chair the Assembly’s Subcommittee on Consumer Fraud Protection and serves on the Banks, Consumer Affairs and Protection, Corporations, Authorities and Commissions, Education, and Judiciary Committees.
