Pheffer Amato Helps Officially Kick Off Beach Season

This past Saturday, May 27th, Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-Rockaway Beach), along with other local and citywide elected officials, helped the New York City Parks Department inaugurate beach season at the Boardwalk on Beach 94th Street in Rockaway Beach. She was joined by State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., Borough President Melinda Katz, and Congressman Gregory Meeks, as well as beachgoers and local leaders, to kick off the most important economic season for the Rockaway Peninsula. She remarked on the steps being taken to make the Peninsula more resilient and to restore sections of the Boardwalk, which has been completely rebuilt for the first time since Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

“For the first time since Superstorm Sandy,” said Pheffer Amato, “during my first year in office, the Boardwalk is complete. That's HUGE. And I want to thank everyone who helped to make that happen, in a community-led way.

“The opening is the moment our town really comes alive every year,” Pheffer Amato continued. “This year, we're marking not only the start of beach season, but a boardwalk made whole and a community making itself resilient. I want to thank Parks, the Administration, and all the local leaders for their incredible work to make sure this season is the best we've ever had. Have fun out there, be safe and let's do what we do best: hit the beach!"
