Pheffer Amato Announces Maura Avington as Legislative Aide

Rockaway Beach, NY –Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-Rockaway) today announced that she has hired a new Legislative Aide and Community Liaison, Maura Avington. Avington recently graduated with her Master’s degree in Public Administration at St. John’s University in Jamaica, Queens.

During her undergraduate years at St. John’s, Avington immersed herself in constituent services at every level of government. She began by working for Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in Medicaid and Medicare, FEMA, and Social Security casework, advocating for constituents all over New York State. While obtaining her Master’s degree, Avington also served as a District Office Fellow for Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, conducting research for her legislative team. After graduating in May 2020, she pursued an internship with Rep. Grace Meng’s office in Washington, D.C. to further learn about policy at the federal level.

Avington is excited about constituent services and making sure that policy works for the people, and she has already begun working on environmental and transportation legislation for the 2020-2021 session.

“Maura came into our office when we needed all hands on-deck and completely jumped into every aspect of our work without reservation,” Pheffer Amato said. “She is passionate about both legislative issues and helping our community on the ground, and I look forward to her many contributions to the office!”
