Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb Opens the 2018 Legislative Session

Yesterday, Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,C,I,Ref-Canandaigua) addressed the Assembly Chamber, where he outlined the challenges facing New York State, stressed the importance of the Legislature's role in state government, and urged his colleagues to keep politics out of the policy initiatives being discussed this year. Leader Kolb also highlighted a number of priority issues that the Assembly Minority Conference will fight for this year. Among the legislative proposals on this year's agenda are:

  • Addressing the state's infrastructure crisis impacting New York City subways, roads and bridges statewide, and the chronic deterioration of the mass transit system;
  • Lowering the extreme financial burdens Albany places on residents, businesses and municipalities;
  • Implementing overdue reforms to improve transparency and accountability in state-run economic development programs;
  • Focusing on real solutions to combat the growing opioid crisis, prevent incidents of domestic violence and provide financial assistance to those burdened with student loan debt; and
  • Finally addressing the embarrassing corruption issues that have stained New York State government for years.
